Hosptial, LTC or Agency...

Do you work in a hospital, LTC facility or an agency? and do you like where you are?

If you don't mind me asking, what is your payrate right now too?

I work at a hospital on a tele unit (first job after getting my CNA). I LOVE it! I am working towards my RN so it allows me to see many different illnesses/injuries that I might not in LTC. Most of the pts have a goal of getting well enough to go home so they work with you instead of fighting you (not that we don't get our fair share of confused/combative). The most pts I've had in a shift is 9, but it usually runs between 6-8. The staff also has a lot to do with my love for my unit though, everyone is willing to help out and answer lights even if it isn't thier pt, your coworkers can make or break you no matter where you work.

I did my clinicals at a nursing home and HATED it... the patients were sweet as can be, it was the attitude of the staff that turned me off (and I've been told that is one of the better facilities in our area). In my experience it seems LTC facilities can get so caught up in schedules/routines and impose that onto the staff that they forget that they are taking care of someone's mother/father/etc.

I've never worked in home health care, but I use to work in auto claims and I strongly advise that if you are going to do that that you check with your insurance carrier to confirm you would be covered if you get in an accident during the course/scope of your work (and I would ask for it in writing for your own records). Many policies have exclusions regarding that, I had to deny many claims due to that. If your policy excludes it then check with the agency you work for to confirm they will cover an accident in that event (and again, get it in writing).
