hey there,

I'm a new graduate and relocating to Gettysburg PA, but i've been getting rejections letters from Wellspan, and Hershey says they've had over 300 applicants!! Where else could I apply... THIS STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Specializes in Oncology, Emergency Dept, PICU.

Have you tried Hanover Hospital? Also you can try Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD (which is only about 30-45 min away from Gettysburg)...

I don't live there anymore, but I grew up in that area and my family still lives there. Hanover Hospital is an excellent hospital and while I know less about it, I belive Carroll Hospital is also good. My family members have been patients in Hanover General Hospital many times in the last few years and I have always been very happy with their care. Checking their website, I see they have several openings for staff nurses.

I also know of an excellent LTC facility nearby within a retirement community -- where I plan to retire someday. It's where I have chosen to receive care when the time comes -- based on the excellent care my family has received there.

Good luck with your career and your relocation. It's a very nice area in which to live.

Thank you. I applied to Hanover hospital, hopefully I'll here something positive back... Thank you for your response. Also, what is the name of the LTC facility? And where is it? Thank you!

The Retirement Community is "Cross Keys Village" just 0.5 miles east of New Oxford on Route 30. (New Oxford is 10 miles east of Gettysburg.) It has a big website. It is a VERY large, comprehensive retirement community with the full gammut of services -- totally independent living on the campus in single-family houses, apartment buildings with independent living, assisted care, and short-term inpatient care, and long-term inpatient care. It's run by the Church of the Brethern and is a very warm, family environment, typical of that region's culture.

Please let me know where you end up. I hope you like wherever it is. :-)

Specializes in Flight Nurse, Pedi CICU, IR, Adult CTICU.

If you are willing to try Carroll Hosp. Center, you might also think about Washington Hospital Center in Hagerstown.

And there are two hospitals in York...the other one is York Memorial.

And if you are willing to commute to Hershey, I wouldn't rule out the Harrisburg area hospitals; Pinnacle, Holy Spirit, Carlisle, and Osteopathic (maybe part of the Pinnacle system, I can't remember).

Specializes in LTC/hospital, home health (VNA).

There is also Chambersburg and Waynesboro. There are numerous LTC facilities in the area(Lutheran Home care has a few, Homewood at PlumCreek, Hanover Hall, Cross Keys Village, Gettysburg Center, Golden Living). When in school I did clinicals at Hanover, Chambersburg, Gettysburg, Carlisle and Harrisburg(Pinnacle). All were pleasant facilities to work in..I personally would have gone to Gettysburg or Carlisle if I hadn't been staying with the VNA.

I knew I missed a couple (Chambersburg/Waynesboro).

Aren't those two hospitals part of the same "system."
