do most hospitals only hire student nurses for PCt's?

:imbar :imbar :imbar I was wondering this because I have applied 3 times to work as a nurse extern and have been turned down. The requirements are to be CNA certified and have one year exeperience or be a senior nursing student. I have been a tech 3 years, I am in school (not in program yet though, I have good references, and I am employed right now in a nursing home. What do you think?

It depends on what state you are in I guess. PCA is a fancy word for nurse aide. I worked as one for many years without a certification from the state. They do have CNA's here, but they work in home care or nursing care facilities etc. In the hospital though it is not required. I think what is happening is so many people are trying to get in those jobs that the competition is fierce. Here in my state they hire student nurses as Nurse Tech's. You have to have Med/Surg 1 completed before you are eligible to apply for that job. It has more duties to it than a Nurse Assistant. Good luck with your job search.
