Hospital Scrubs

I currently work OR and hopefully I am transfering to NICU soon. Either way, the hospital scrubs are what are provided for us. I personally like it. 1. I don't have to pay for scrubs and I don't have to worry about laundering them also. 2. if you gain/lose weight or become pregnant, all you have to do is simply change your scrub size! 3. I love the fact that if you get something on you, bodily fluids and what not, you just go grab another pair. I used to work at a nursing home, and while it is fun to pick out fun and different scrubs, it is expensive. just my :twocents: .

We wear our own, but the pants have to be navy and tops have to be 50% navy for RNs, other staff wear different colors but same rule, same throughout the hospital not just our unit. OR and those in L&D working c/s have issued scrubs. We do a full 3min scrub up to elbows at beginning of shift and after lunch, and any time we leave from the NICU. No jewelry on hands or wrists. No clothing below elbows if working with a patient (if not doing care, can wear sweater/scrub jacket or have sleeves pulled down). When holding a baby, we have to wear a gown. All visitors must do 3min wash, no jewelry, and wear a gown. Our docs and NNPs wear either scrubs or professional clothes with a gown. If we attend c/s we have to wear a cover gown. Any other staff coming in (surgery, radiology, consulting MDs) have to do the wash/no jewelry/gown.

We wear our own. There have been studies done and the infection rate for wearing your own scrubs weren't a factor.

Same with us for the past few years. At first, after we quit wearing hospital issued scrubs, we could wear whatever color scrubs we chose. Now we are required to wear a specific color pants and have 2 different color tops we can choose. These 2 colors have to be in the top somewhere and in most patterns & styles.
