Hospital orientation at north shore LIJ

Hello all,

I am a recent new grad (May) and passed my Nclex-RN boards in July!! I was offered my first RN position at my dream hospital Long Island Jewish medical center :) I will be starting nights and every other weekend in a med-surg floor. I wanted to know how intense orientation was and any advice for a novice BSN, RN. Thank you :)

Hi! I just got hired for NSLIJ Health System too! I'm set to work at Forest Hills Hospital. I was wondering what orientation is like for new grad nurses. Is there a pharmacology exam? When do they give it? What are the classroom orientations like? What are unit orientations like? I know some orientations can vary between units but I was wondering what a general med-surg orientation is like there.

One of my good friends that I graduated from nursing school with got a job at NSLIJ and he said there is a med/pharmacology exam. There is also a significant amount of computer work and competencies that must be completed. As far as unit orientation, I don't know about that as he works in psych.

Thanks for the information. There was an online pharmacy exam I had to take at home. There is some computer work i had to do before I start but it's not bad. I think in the beginning everyone has the same classroom orientation regardless of their unit. I guess I'll find out once I start!

There's no study guide provided but there are plenty of nursing pharmacy reviews online that can help you prepare for the test. The test wasn't bad. Some of the questions were a little difficult but it's mostly doable. Good luck!

Hey guys,

I am About to start orientation for ICU at night. Does anyone know what orientation schedule looks like? I'm currently enrolled in school and need to register for next semester which is the start of the orientation. Don't want conflicting schedules. Anyone have any ideas. Thank you all for your time
