I am currently a junior in nursing school and I am working full time for a plumbing company. I'd love to work in a hospital setting but I cannot afford the pay cut that would be required of me for the jobs offered.
I have 5 semesters left and I was wondering if there was possibly a 6-9 month program that I could attend to gain some type of certification so that I could finally work in a hospital setting?
Thank you in advance.

You could always do a CNA course, they usually only take 5-6 weeks to complete.

Don't know about NY, but in NJ I worked ER as a clinical technician-I was certified onsite...they like nursing students. I was taught phlebotomy, ekg and how to perform istats and urine testing...we also used some nursing skills like cruch walking, patient care and assisted nurses. Just a little bit more than a CNA and definately on track for nursing.
Seek out your local ERs and see what they are looking for...it never hurts to look.

oh, duh...I didn't even think about the nurse tech job...if you've finished your fundamentals of nursing, a lot of hospitals are looking for you as a nurse tech!
