Hi....new to this forum. I am currently a case manager for an acute inpatient hospital and suffering from severe burnout! Average daily patient load is 28-30 patients....we do it all....UR, d/c planning, Interqual, etc. We have no social worker on staff at our hospital which means 90% of my day is spent with difficult d/c planning issues....self pay homeless drug addicts that had a stroke whose family wants them placed 200 miles away (you get my drift?). I really enjoy the utlization review part of my job....it's the d/c planning that is sooo stressful. I am considering a case management job for an insurance company. What do you think? Have any of you made the switch? Is working for an insurance company less stressful? Or should I stay where I am and hope for the best? HELP!!!!
