I work in a 2 bed comfort care home in NYS - These homes as you may know (IN NYS) are NOT regulated by anybody. My problem is this... I am an "On Call Nurse" for th house, I work nearly every weekend as well as fill in for my Director (Who is also an R.N.) for all of her vacations and sick days. This amounts to approx 5+ weeks in addtion to my weekends.

I have been there nearly 1 & 1/2 years now; my concern is with regard to her standard of practice, it has never been what I would consider acceptable nor the way I practice. However it is getting increasingly worse.

WHAT I AM REALLY LOOKING FOR IS ADVICE ON WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE PRACTICE IN THIS ENVIRONMENT ? AS MANY LIKEN IT TO A PATIENT'S OWN HOME ~ HOWEVER I FIRMLY BELIEVE WE MUST UPHOLD THE 1) NURSE PRACTICE ACT OF OUR STATE IN WHICH WE HOLD A LICENSE 2) ABIDE BY THE STANDARD OF CARE AS OUTLINED BY OUR STATE 3)

ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO ALL THE SAME POTENTIAL FORMS OF PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY WRITTEN INFORMATION OR NYS SITES I CAN REFERENCE ? NEED HELP ASAP, ANY AND ALL ANSWERS APPRECIATED !

MANY THANKS ~ ELICIARN

You could contact NHPCO or HPNA and see what they say. Who employs you and this director RN? She must have a supervisor. Maybe you should seek out that person if you can't approach her directly with your concerns?

If you have increasingly alarming concerns about these issues, your best action is to find a new place of employment.
