Hospice On-Call Schedules

Published

Hospice is my "true" calling :p but I haven't worked as a Hospice RN for several years. I'd like to return but I keep hearing stories about how brutal the on-call schedules are.

How often do you have to be on-call? Anyone have a dedicated after hours or on-call team? Anyone work for VistaCare or Odyssey? (2 agencies in my area) Thanks for sharing!

what are the current salaries for on call hospice nurses?

I am on call for Phone traige for 75hours a week and get paid for 37.5 hours/week. Meaning I get paid for 7.5 hours for working 15hours. My hours are 5pm-8am M-F(15hours on call per night) That would make it $15/hour. I've been doing this for almost 10years now. However, 4 years ago our census started rising. That makes it a full night of calls etc. Our census has doubled to appox 170pts. and the voicemail alone takes 2-3hours to transcribe. I've asked several times for more money or less hours but they just say, your salary and this is the way it is.
