Hospice in Hospitals

Published

Does anyone know of a hospice company that sends nurses to hospitals rather than the client's home? I am in GA.

Some do. Usually the pt has symptom mgt issues and they are a GIP pt which requires the pt to be in a 24/7 SN facility that meets certain requirements and that the hospice has a contract with to provide the 24/7 care along with a required daily visit from a hospice Rn, and a hospice dr or np. It also requires much more charting of conditions and interventions.

Hospitals have their own staff who are capable of providing CMO care. The only time an agency sends out a hospice nurse to the hospital is when a patient in the hospital is admitted to GIP service (usually that is not done because the hospital is totally inept but a financial decision). The nurse does not stay in the hospital though. When I worked for a home hospice agency and had to see a GIP patient it would not take more than like an hour plus documentation. Main purpose is to assess and recommend. I have gone plenty times to longterm care facilities and also to assisted living.

If you do not want to work in home hospice at home you need to find an agency that mostly caters to longterm care facilities or assisted living - though I really liked the mix of home and facilities.

Or you find a hospice house to work.
