Horrible test taker terrified of TEAS

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Hey!

I am applying for my schools nursing program for next semester and required to take the TEAS. My school's requirements are a 3.5 GPA of prerequisites as well as a 75 or above on the TEAS test to get in. If the applicant has taken all of the prerequisites at the same university and fits both of those categories, they are automatically accepted into the nursing program.

Seemed like a piece of cake to me! Until I started studying for the TEAS and was brought back to my SATs, which I took 2 years ago before they implicated the new SAT format.I got a 1390 (out of 2400) on the SATs, which was below average with a GPA of 3.9.

As you can see, I have a history of sucking at standardized tests and as I have started to study for the TEAS, the anxiety of standardized testing is back. I currently have a 3.6 GPA in college, but I credit that to mere studying.

I guess my question is, how worried should I be about the TEAS when I am not good at standardized testing to begin with? How hard is it really to score a 75?

You might be able to minimize your anxiety by relying on multiple sources - not just ATI's official book, but also additional matter such as Mometrix's TEAS Secrets book. Online resources at tests.com allow you to take multiple versions of the four test types, and are well worth the $19.95 IMO. Those, in conjunction with a lot of face time watching Khan Academy and Crash Course videos, filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge, especially in the maths and sciences.

The oniline test prep products from ATI and Union Test Prep might be helpful.
