You could stress that a lot of it is verbal and not physical. People have a hard time understanding verbal abuse. Also throw in the selective stuff, always getting the full patient load on a unit that is only partially occupied, having breaks changed during the shift so that "the old timers" can go together. The sarcastic quips, throwaway remarks, followed up with quips like "you need a thick skin to work around here".
It's kind of like being the new kid in high school with the uber bitches picking on you bangs or braces....

Hi,
I posted this on the general nursing forum, but am interested in LPN/LVN's take on this since my presentation I am preparing is for my graduation from LPN school.
I am doing a presentation on Horizontal violence or How nurses eat their young
I have plenty of statistics, but what I am missing are anectdotal stories that can humanize the subject for people. Any stories you've seen or have happen to you would be much appreciated.
Thank you sooooo much,
Erika
