Hello fellow nurses,
I am in the process of starting a non medical home agency. Basically, the company will provide clients with personal care services such as assistance with adl's. I have heard that I could purchase a policy and procedure manual. I have looked online and have seen numerous ads for different companies that offer this service. Has anyone had any experience in this area? If so, what company could you recommend? also any tips and hints that you can offer to make the process of starting this business easier would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance:)

I've had the tiniest bit of experience with developing P&P. I had a lot of downtime at a travel contract and they let me loose with a CD with generic P&P and I adapted them for the specific facility. Easy enough.
While I think it is a good idea to have such manuals, I question if you need them for non-medical care. You might if there is going to be state oversight of your business. If not, I think you can skip it. If you are going to have employees, you will probably want to make job descriptions and provide standards of care.
Thanks for the reply NedRN, the agency will be licensed by the state. I will also apply for Medicaid authorization as well. I think that a p&p is required.
Medicaid pays for non-medical care? There is so much I don't know, I don't even know what I don't know!
