Hi everyone. I've recently made the decision that I would like to get out of the hospital setting and try a new aspect of nursing and venture into the world of home health nursing. I really enjoyed my home health nursing rotation in nursing school and just find many positives to home health nursing which has helped me make the decision to make a change in my nursing career.
However, as I've been starting my job hunt for a home health position I've realized I have no clue where to start in this search. There just seem to be many agencies out there to work for and I have no idea how to sort out the good from the bad. So I figured I'd turn to you home health experts for some help in how to go about applying for a home health position.
I'm located in south central PA but I'm close to the PA/MD border so I'm going to be obtaining my MD nursing license as well to give me some more options. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Bayada is an agency that usually has good reviews. Other than that, most likely you would have to go with word of mouth. No matter the reputation in general for a large, many-region agency, the local office may have the opposite reputation, based upon the behavior of the local office personnel, at any given point in time. So, having access to the opinions of people with experience working for specific offices will be valuable. Then again, if there are only three agencies in your local area, that narrows down your opportunities.
Thanks! I've seen Bayada pop up during my job searches so I'll probably apply. And I kind of figured it'd probably be best just to ask around the area I live in what others recommend in my area. But thanks for your advice.
I've found the trick is where to find other nurses to ask about things if you don't meet them on a job. I've engaged nurses wearing scrubs when they are with their clients in local malls, but that does not happen very often!
Haha. That's a smart idea though. Next time I'm out and about I'll have to keep my eyes open just in case I stumble across someone who might be able to provide me with some advice.
Hey, we have exchanged employment info, names, phone numbers, business cards if we have one. Works for me.
