Home Health/Hospice Visit Pay by Location

Specialties Hospice

Hi,

I've been away from home care nursing for about 10 years. I am hoping to be able to reduce my hours of work from 40-60 hours per week to part time work and am considering returning to home care/hospice on a part time basis. I am not primarily motivated by finances, but after working in nursing for >25 years, I'm ready to slow down a bit. I just don't know if I can afford to do this. I live in California but may have to consider a move if I can't afford to stay here.

Could some of you please let me know what I might expect from a per visit rate of pay for home care? My specialties have been oncology, HIV, ICU and CCU. Is it realistic to hope to work 20 hours per week in a home care position?

Thanks so much for your feedback!

I really can't answer about home health, as in my area (NYS) home health and hospice are very different. My hospice in particular looks for full time RNs and LPNs in the field, and most of our Residence staff are part time per their preference. We tend to start RNs at $3-4 less than the local hospital, and we do not pay by the visit, but by the hour. The point with our particular hospice is not to see how many visits the nurse can make in a day, but how well the needs can be met.

Good luck with your career change.

Kat

We also pay per hour. I work PRN @ $21/hr.This is rural Pennsylvania.
