Home care - per diem right away?

Hi. I am thinking about doing pediatric home care. I have an adult background but would do a pediatric training program. I am wondering, do they hire per diem as a new hire? Ot would I have to work a commitment of a certain amount of part time hours, or even have to do a full time commitment? I know every agency is different I guess. But what are your experiences?

My experience has been that you work all of this out when you are hired and when they start assigning you work. That is why home health is known as being so flexible. You indicate to the agency what you are able and willing to work and they work with you to provide you the schedule that fits your needs best. Many nurses work home health on the side while keeping a full time or part time job elsewhere. They couldn't do this without the cooperation of the home health agency. Sometimes they do some pretty creative scheduling. Good luck. Hope you enjoy working with the peds population.
