Hi everyone..... I have been an R.N. for almost 40 yrs. I am getting too tired to continue critical care nursing, with the usual fast pace, and long hrs (12-14 hr shifts.) Not working in a hospital where there is nursing union, allows my hospital to work its nurses long and hard. I can't keep that up anymore.
I am wondering if there are any nursing jobs out there, that can be done at home. I can't do Home Health. And, do not want to do telephone triage. I could do Nursing Research, or some other jobs from home.
Wish all of you younger nurses the best. The nursing field is becoming more challenging....and, not in a good way. Computerized charting was supposed to free nurses up to care for their patients. Not so much. Now, I see an increase in nurse-patient load to such a degree, that there is less time to give baths, etc. Now, it's not unusual to see a patient in ICU, who hasn't had a bath or teeth brushed in 3-4 days. So sad. Joint Commission is making our nurses jump through so many hoops, there is no time to care for the needs of the patient.
All you fellow nurses out there...take. And, God Bless.

Feeling your pain. Search here on AN using phrases such as "work from home".
10% of the workforce does! I work from home for an insurance company.. would be a good place to start your search.
Good luck, keep us posted.
