[h=5]I'm thinking about going to Hocking for LPN or RN. There isn't anything posted online about the waiting lists (like how long, possible advanced standing, etc)? Does anyone know what the HESI scores are that determine whether one starts in PN or RN at the school? I would like to know whether I would schedule Intro to PN or Intro to RN(pre-clinical), so I don't waste my time and money on an intro course (i.e. taking intro to RN if placed into PN or vice versa). I've looked all over the Web site, but information concerning these topics at Hocking is very vague. I've talked to advising, but can't seem to get any straight answers. Also, any insight and comments about Hocking (either program) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks![/h]

I got all A's up unitll my second semester and then that's when they start weeding out students. Less than 10 out of 60 made it through. Its a rough program. I never had to take a HESI so I am not sure about that. I heard they are starting to require it though and its also required to have your STNA.

vc01ca, how long did it take for you to complete the pre-clinical portion of the program? Were you on the waiting list for three years after you completed it? I'm also interested in Hocking, but it's hard to find information on how long the wait list is. Do you know if they admit students all year long, or is it just a fall semester start? And wow, 10 out of 60! That's insane. But good job for pulling through it!

It took me 3 years to complete the preclinical classes. That was my choice though as I went to school part time while working full time. I started summer of 2010 then finally got in clinical at the beginning of 2013. So the clinical start date worked out perfect for me as I had finished all my generals. I would recommend getting all the generals out of the way before clinicals. Its too much with clincals and pharm classes. Plus if you go the RN route anything under an 82% is failing so you want to keep those grades up. Yes they admit students year round. Each semester they take 60 students.

Just an update to any others looking for Hocking info:

What I've learned so far is there is a wait list of about 18 months for both LPN and RN programs. 75% on all sections of the HESI gets you in the RN program. Otherwise, you are placed on the LPN track. The HESI must be taken during the first semester pre-clinical courses. Once all pre-clinical work is completed, you are placed on the waiting list. My advice, if you are willing to make the drive, would be to apply at Columbus State Community College or work on their prerequisites. They will transfer to Hocking if your heart is set on that school, but it will give you an additional option. Also, CSCC requires CHEM, which will be necessary if you want to apply to more schools and/or get your BSN. Hocking does not require CHEM. There is also a program at Washington State Community College in Marietta where you are either in or out. They admit in the fall. Their LPN program admits in the summer and fall. The summer is a one year program, and the fall start is a two-year part time program. It is first come, first served rolling admission for LPN. ADN program is selective admission. Just some helpful FYI for those looking at options other than Hocking.
