David Blumenthal M.D., President Obama's pick for National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is director of the Institute for Health Policy at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston), a practicing physician and also serves as a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
"He was involved in the Obama campaign, and all of us knew he was one of the individuals advising the president-elect on technology issues," said Steven Lieber in an a March 23rd interview with Health Data Management.

Lieber, HIMSS CEO says Blumenthal apparently had "considerable influence" on the crafting of the health care I.T. provisions in the economic stimulus package.
Blumenthal published a paper in January that outlined his support of many of the same I.T. principles found in the stimulus package.
