I am confused...did CMC and Presby announce this freeze officially? I have interviewed with a CMC Nursing recruiter for New Grad positions. This interview took place the first week in February. She hasn't mentioned anything about a possible freeze, etc. I guess this would explain her seemingly procrastination with sending our info to nurse managers so we can interview. We are graduating in 57 days and no job prospects. Anybody have any ideas, suggestions at this point? I am even more perturbed that I also work in a CMC facility and all of this seems to be "hush-hush." It is no secret that we are in a tough economic/financial market, I would appreciate it if they just said something either way so that I can start working on my "Plan B."

I graduated from CPCC in May '08. We were being actively recruited starting about October '07. We had recruitment sessions given by the different systems on several occasions. By graduation, the only people without a job had just not decided which way to go. Actually, most of us had a variety of offers to choose from. I'm not sure if it was my school (no affiliation with a hospital) or if all schools were being courted as we were at the time.

It must be very different now if the recruiters aren't clamoring over you.

On the other hand, I currently work for one of the "big 2" healthcare systems in charlotte and we have just hired 4 RNs for our department, as we do about every 6 months. I am also in talks for a part time position at the other hospital. I don't believe there is a hiring freeze, but maybe a hiring slow down.

Then again, do we ever really know what the suits are doing in the towers?
