Hi,
I just started at St. Vincent's as a SNE. I was wondering from you experienced nurses out there what my chances are of being hired on there after graduation. I am hoping to extend my externship into the fall as well. Anyone have any inside info it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know specifically about St. V.'s, but can tell you that it's nice to hire someone who already knows the floor and "only" needs to be taught a new role. I think that's the bigger challenge to try and transition into a different role on the same floor. A floor I worked on as a tech later hired me as a nurse, and everyone took a while to remember that I wasn't in the tech role anymore. One nurse in particular who, it seemd, never bothered to learn my name, would just call out "Oh, care partner (the term for techs there.)" Drove me nuts. She did that once after I graduated and I corrected her, "It's ________, or nurse, please :)."

Hello! I worked as a SNE at Clarian and was offered a position there as an RN. I know at Clarian, as a SNE you are basically assured a job on that unit upon graduation. I have friends who were SNEs at St Vincent and were offered positions there upon graduation. So i'd say your chances are pretty high, as long as you dont mess it up. Good luck, u'll enjoy the externship, I did!!!

I worked in the Peds Ed at St. V and can tell you if you are a good employee you have a good chance in getting hired.
I personally liked St. V over Clarian and Community hospital. I worked all 3:jester:

i also was hired as a new grad when i finished my externship as a SNE at St. Vincent. it's a double-edged sword about working there as a SNE, and then one day you're a nurse! a few times i had to remind the nurses that "i know i've worked her forever (worked as a tech before nursing school in same dept), but i've never worked as a NURSE!! i still need help!!"
