Hi all,

I'm a new grad career changer who has a ton of nursing interests, the OR among them. I wasn't one of those people who ONLY wanted to do a certain specialty, but I did have a general idea of what I like about nursing, who I am, and what I loved about my previous careers. I recently applied to a paid OR residency/periop 101 program after passing my boards 2/2. I'm excited to say that I received an offer today and was thrilled to accept it. :) I'm not someone who posts much on Facebook, but wanted to share it with those here on AN who gave me such great inspiration to pursue the specialty, even if they didn't know it!

Because I didn't know a lot about the circulating role and the OR nursing field in general, I turned to this forum to guide my research when considering my options. Hearing about the challenges, benefits, and drawbacks from such experienced folks really helped me make an informed decision, and even more importantly, completely helped me to prepare for my job shadow and interviews. I loved the personalities and the culture I observed in the OR both during my school clinical experiences and my job shadow, but I needed more information to see if this path was the correct one for me.

Many, many thanks to everyone, especially Rose_Queen for the quality, informative posts and stickies. It really made a difference in my career research. I am enthusiastically looking forward to the next step of the journey!

--- best wishes, Kaly
