Highschool senior intent on becoming an ER np

Published

So the deadline for applying to UC's and CSU's are coming to an end and I am confused as to the route that I should take in order to reach my goal of becoming an ernp. I am really confused as to the steps required. Should I go to a csu or a uc. If CSU is the best route, then which school in Southern California would provide me with the best education and preparation needed to succeed. I'm thinking about: csulb, csula, csuf(Fullerton), and sdsu.

If you want to work in the ER then it is perhaps best to apply to an Acute Care NP program because this focuses more on the type of emergency cases that you are going to encounter there. Many acute care facilities also hire Family NPs in the ER and as hospitalists, especially if they have ER or critical care experience as an RN.

Since you are just leaving high school I would say that it doesn't matter which school you choose to go for your RN/BSN degree. As far as I know, all the ones you mentioned are good schools. You have plenty of time to decide where to do the ACNP degree later. I recommend getting some good RN experience in the ER before going to NP school though.

Thanks for the info. It's been bothering me for a while.
