My doc informed me today that my cholesterol levels are high. I imgine that I will be put on cholesterol lowering medicine.

Question is: Will this hurt my chances of joining the military, again?

I can only tell you of my own personal experience with MEPS. My cholesterol was over 200 and my doctor put me on Lipitor. When I went to MEPS this was not an issue with the Docs at least for me.

Get in contact with a recruiter and that person should be able to give you a definitive answer. Also, they usually will pull whatever strings they can to get you physically qualified to join the military.

I skimmed the "Standards of Medical Fitness" AR and found no reference to hyperlipidemia as an exclusionary disease. You can check it out for yourself at: http://www.usapa.army.mil/pdffiles/r40_501.pdf. The only references I came across had to do with flight physicals (esp. for aviators) and over-40 physicals (for all).

Good luck!

Thanks ANC_Maj. I spoke to my doctor and he said that as long as it is being "controlled", it will not be a factor for exclusion. I started treatment for it this weekend.
