hi guys i have a question that has been bugging me for some time now

im from the philippines and i just finished my BSN here...the thing is im a greencard holder and my mom wants me to take NCLEX directly and just skip the board exam here in the philippines.....

my question is is that advisable? can i be called a US-RN if i passed the NCLEX or should i really take the board exam here? thanks for the answers guys

I guess a lot will depend on the state you apply to and whether they want local license or not.

Also remember you are applying to be a licensed nurse in the US, NCLEX is just a part of that process

some states requires a license from the country of origin and some don't both as a requirement for nclex application and reciprocity in case you are a rn now.

i'm in the same situation as you so i know...

@ sILVERDRAGON

thanks for the reply

So what you mean is even if i were to get and pass NCLEX im still not a licenced nurse? i thought NCLEX was already the board exam there in US.... are there other exams in US that i should take to get be a licenced nurse?

it says in the NCLEX website that i should just submit a letter to them explaining why i wouldnt take the local board here. In my case im an immigrant and soon to be a citizen in US...would that status change the process?

i did that and i dunno why i my application won't stick to just one evaluator. took me more or less 1 more month than the 6 month estimated process time just explaining to at least 3 evaluators that i'm an immigrant and doesn't have an interest to practice the profession back there that's why i'm challenging the nclex. lots of mails have been thrown back and forth to me and the board...:lol2:

i didn't understand what i typed when i read it now...haha!

i'm gonna use myself (california) and my classmate (texas) as an example. the bon requires a local board from the country of origin as a requirement but you can still take the test provided that you explain your situation (not sure if applying for all states are the same). in california, if you passed, you can practice the profession. on the other hand in texas, you can't still practice because they still requires a license from the country of origin.

my classmate passed but didn't take the oath so he just went back to the phil. just to take the oath...

you are a registered nurse if you pass the nclex. but you can't just practice in any state that easy as some states needs more requirements for international grads (ielts, toefl, cgfns)...

What I am saying is you are not applying for NCLEX but to be a licensed nurse in the state you apply to NCLEX is just a part of the process of your application. If you meet requirements and pass NCLEX (need to meet requirements to be able to schedule NCLEX) and the state issues a license then you are a licensed nurse for that state

hmmm so what you mean is there is no oath taking that will take place when i pass nclex right?

i think i got it....so ill be an RN only on that state that i applied for is that correct? what happens if for example I go to Saudi or London and apply for a job there. Do they require me to go back to my country and take the Local board exam or will they consider my license that i received on the state i applied for or will i take other exams?

Saudi and definitely the UK requires a local license ie a license in the country you trained in, so do I believe Australia, New Zealand, Other EU countries.

Also remember even though the NCLEX is national if you move from one state to another to live you still have to meet their requirements before they will issue you a license, you however do not have to take NCLEX again
