i just wanted to introduce myself. i've been lurking around this site for a couple days now, so i just thought i'd say hi! i'm a mom of three and am going to start my pre-reqs on the 21st of aug. i am a bit nervous about school in general. i was stupid in hs and thought i knew everything. so therefore i didn't do well, and didn't take anything that will help me now. (if we could only go back in time to kick ourselves lol). i was a cna for almost 3yrs, on the mother/baby unit (postpartum/nursery), at a local hospital. i left to have my own baby, now she is 16 mos. and i miss working at the hospital. i've been planning to go to nursing school for a few years, but have just now mustered up the courage to jump in, so here goes! i can't wait to get to know you all.
is any one thinking of a direction they would like to go with their career yet? as a cna i floated to most of the floors. i was pretty sure i wanted to be in l&d, but now my heart is leaning towards nicu. so we'll see, i'm going to keep an open mind in school.

Hi,
I wish the best of luck to you all. I"ll be finishing up my pre-requirements and I hope I can start applying by next Fall to Nursing Program. I wanted to ask Christin, what was it like working in the postartum/Nursery unit? I'm thinking of working there onice I"ll be registered Nurse, becaues I love little infants and babies in general.
Thanks
I loved it! After working there I can't imagine working anywhere else, that I can't "play" with the babies. But I also like the "rush" from L&D and NICU, So I think I'll end up in one of those at some point.

I'm also finally starting my pre-req's this August to become an RN. I am the mom of two boys, ages 1 and 3. I have a degree in journalism, but have never been truly satisfied with the work nor the pay. I've been considering nursing school for two years, but only now have I found the courage or the right time in life to go for it. Thankfully my husband and family members are all very supportive. Also, six of my family members (sisters and in-laws) are nurses, and they have been very encouraging regarding this career choice. Anyway, hopefully we can all help each other on this site. It's also good for me to read posts from other moms who are in nursing school because one of my main concerns is balancing school and motherhood successfully.

Hi Christin!
I'm also a mom of three, ages 6, 3.5, and almost 2 (and am also named Kristin, so we're very similar!) and am starting up my pre-reqs this semester. I have a previous degree but didn't really work hard, though I think I'm very smart so hopefully things will work out.
I'm a planner so I already know exactly what I want to do and that is to become an RN, focus on a L&D unit for about 2 years and then get my Masters in Midwifery. I can't wait and sometimes I think the anticipation is going to kill me!!
Good luck and welcome!
