afraid of negative background check
hi folks, i have been accepted for spring of 2009 into the RN program at the community college i'm attending, and i am required to submit a background check. long story short. during my senior year in high school (2001) i was involved in a fight and was charge with misdemeanor assault with a weapon; this experience has changed my life positively, but i am afraid this will have a negative impact on whats ahead. i can expunge or seal my record if i have to, so only government agencies, or law enforcement can see my record. this process may be long, and i have no idea how to do it myself. i can also get a lawer to seal my record, but that will be costly. i wish i could go back to change the past, but i cant. has anyone gone through this process please enlighten me. my concern is will they give me the boot after finding out my background? i am scared to death. ill be truly sadden if all the hard work i've put into the nursing career deminishes.

thanks, i was able to contact the instructor by email; apparently they don't return your phone calls even after leaving them a message. the only titer they wanted was for varicella (results were positive). i received new shots for mmr/teatnus because they were outdated. got my x-ray for tb and was vaccinated for hep b in 85 already. so i think im good to go. only thing left is to take the teas. i hope results for that are positive also :nuke:

i have a friend who started fall 08, so you guys are from the same draft pick. hopefully ill be able to gain some knowledge from you two. what was your percentage on the teas, and did you study for it? my buddy got a 67%, and he did not study at all because obviously it didn't count. you wouldn't happen to remember what type of questions were on the math or science portion? for instance, metric conversion. there is so much to remember about metric i don't even want to stress over it.

Metric conversion on teas
hey guys ill be taking my teas test in 2 weeks and really need help with metric conversion. i've already picked up a study guide by McGraw-Hill's(Nursing School Entrance Exams) because i cant afford the ATI. its a decent book, but not much help on metric. im pretty good with math up to algebra, but real sh!tty when it comes to metrics. can anyone tell me how the metric questions will look like on the teas? will they be set up as word problems? U.S. to Metric, vise versa? etc.. any helpful links with explanation on how to set up and solve the equation? btw i've already been provisionally accepted for spring 09 given that i pass the teas with a 67% overall. i know that may sound low to some of you, but i am only average when it comes to english/reading. i already know ill do bad on the science like everyone else.

are you a student at lbcc? looks like you have another year ( or 2 semester) left after this semester. on a scale of 1-10 ( ten being the hardest) what would you rate it? note im not very book smart, but a great hands on person. your lucky you didn't have to take the teas test. they just started doing it this semester, how unfortunate for me. im terrified even though i need a 67%

once i start nursing school (2009), clinical will be enough hospital work for me. i dont think ill have time for any volunteer work. money is not the issue, if i can do one or the other (titer vs shots), id rather go with the cheaper solution. thanks for the advice though.

ive contacted them regarding this matter, lbcc doesn't offer titer test. they only do flu, mmr, and hep.

sadly, like most Americans im not insured. everything would have to be paid out of my own pocket. is it safe to get the shots done without a titer? i know some people get the titer first, then booster shots if they are low on immunity. ill most likely go with the shots.

you read my mind. seems like the nursing department there cant provide me with the answers im looking for. I had to email the instructor. you're right about the titer for varicella. now the question is can i skip the titer and get the vaccine? it would be cheaper.

hi folks, i have been accepted for spring 09 at lbcc. im in the process of filling out my health evaluation form (yellow form). my immunization record card dating back to 87, shows that i had been vaccinated for hep B, MMR, and polio. i also contracted chicken pox @ 6 yrs old. can anybody tell me if i need a TITER test for varicella, hepatitis B, MMR, and polio? is required along with the health evaluation form? the reason i ask is because my buddy went through the same process last semester only to find out from his instructor on the first day of class that he was required to get a titer test to prove he was still immune. he only needed a booster for mumps.

Name that part. Words patients use for their own anatomy.
I guess YONIS is a new term they use to decribe a cliterous.. My gf told me this after hearing it from a hip hop radio station. I suppose its a new "street" term.. If i had to take a wild guess id say they came up with that term in relations to a guys member..

Pre Reqs for Newbies
there are a good amount of us on here that are starting our pre reqs this fall and most of us have the jitters so ive decided to create this thread to help one another with useful info, links, tips etc... let me start.. heres how my schedule will look like this coming fall. im taking all night classes.. on mondays i have anatomy, from 12-6 ill be in the lab and from 7-9 lecture.. tuesday psych. human growth and development.. wednesdays im off and thursday english 100.. im also taking P.E. all i have to do is show up to gym at least 6/hrs per week. so basicly 3/4 of the classes im taking are my pre reqs... im not to worried about english although i should be since i dont write essays to well.. im hoping psych. treats me well. anatomy is the one class i fear most it'll probably give me the most headache since im at school from 12-9 with a 1hr break. this semester will probably test my capacity if i manage to get good grades it'll give me more confident going into next semester.. im not exactly the brightest star out there but i feel i can do it if i put that extra effort here and there. wish me luck.
