Hi Everyone! Advice Needed for School!

Published

Hi everyone!

I currently have a BA and after years of dragging my feet have finally decided to get my BSN.

I know I need to go back to school to for my prerequisites (currently I only have statistics), but I don't even know where to start. :-/

I live in Southern California and truthfully since 2014 have tried to get into the prerequisite courses at Chaffey College, but they are ALWAYS full.

I've then been told I could take courses instead at LAC instead?

It just seems I hear different information constantly and honestly...its a bit confusing.

My first goal is to receive my BSN...but where do I start?

I may need online courses because I work full time...but evening could work as well.

I appreciate any tips/help that anyone could offer. Thank you so much. :-)

I worked with someone who had a non nursing bachelors and went to LAC.

Thanks for your response! And wow, really? Did they have all the prerequisites?

She actually got her associates degree in nursing from there after getting her BA... It was at a time when the differences between BSNs vs. ADNs were not that big of a deal... Especially if someone already had a degree. She went on to do a masters degree in health care administration (I think) in NYU in NY. I worked at USC University Hospital/Keck when I lived in SoCal and a lot of people went to LAC... If you want to do a primary entry BSN you could probably do your prerequisites there depending on which ever program you want to enter and then go for it. Or, since you have a bachelors, you could do a primary entry masters degree as an RN! All the best! Keep us posted. p.s. I am back in NYC now and miss California sooooo much!

Hi again :) Just in case I am misunderstanding, are you already a nurse with a BA or are you going to become a nurse for the first time after having a BA? I now realize I should have asked that question first, prior to giving my last answer...

Wow thank you! And wow really, funny you say that. I'm a little sick of CA and want to move to NY badly. lol! :-)

Sorry! :)

I have a BA already, but I want to become a nurse for the first time. But I need prerequisites first, before I apply to schools I believe. It's just frustrating because it seems all the community college science classes are always full every semester. :-(

I was thinking maybe I could apply to LAC's ADN program instead...but I think I need all prerequisites for that too.

Maybe check out the Masters primary entry nursing programs... Believe it or not, sometimes they are easier to get into and have a "bridge" element which includes all prerequisites..

and and good luck if you decide to move to NY :)

Specializes in NICU.

So, move from one extremely saturated state to another. In both Cal. and NY new grads have difficulty finding jobs.

Hi Thanks for your response. When I replied, truthfully I wasn't thinking of that. I just meant for a change and I love NY and the people there. But thanks for the info, this is good to know. :-)
