Hey fellow Nurses....Question re: Native Reservations

Published

Hey gang, First I would love to say to everyone and thank you for all your wonderful threads of information.

I am an RN with 18 months exp. M/S

I am from Ontario Canada and I can't find an steady work in my area. I dont want to move to a big city like London or Toronto. So Im gonna head south.

I am planning on traveling to the US with a company called Summmit Medical (anyone know em'?) they would like to send me to a Native Reservation in either Nevada or New Mexico, still in the planning stage (I plan on getting EVERYTHING in writing).

Hi Crazy Nurse Irene,

If your interested in working on a reservation why not stay in Ontario and work in a nursing station in the north?? the money is exceptional and you don't have to worry about visas or licensure since (I assume) that you have Ontario registration. You can go up for as little as 7 days or as long as there is a need (which is almost always). Transport and accomodation is paid and you only have to pay for food. You are isolated but if you want a different experience it's definitely worth a try. You can go up with an agency or work directly for Health Canada. I have gone twice now and loved it.

I have worked on the Navajo Res in AZ at Chinle Faciltity and absolutely loved it. Its isolated but the area is tremendously interesting, the people I worked with really very lovely. The pay is good which is a bonus. I renewed and did a double contract there. I would go again but have a pet now and so the housing does not work for me any more ( shared)

i am currently working at chinle and I love it here. working nights pcu. I just signed for my second contract. where did u work and how long ago.

*smiling * I was in Chinle OB back in jan to july or thereabouts 2003, it was absolutely wonderful. Chinle has come up since but I just know i had problems over my cat and the housing lady would not love to see me again..

If you get over to OB please tell them Hi from Anne..( the kiwi errrr new zealander)' Charlotte from OB taught me to bead, we used urine cups, I have been struggling with it ever since..it would be worth irritatiing the housing lady all over again for more lessons.

Have you had much time to look about, if your into looking about do not miss Four Corners and Mesa Verde.. I saw such a lot when I was there, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, SW Colorado, I even ( by mistake) got into some 4 wheel driving using the Navajo road map.. *laughing*
