I am going to take the HESI A2 exam at Long Island University (LIU). I have purchased the Evolve Reach Admissions Assessment 2nd edition book, but it tells me nothing about the formatting of the exam. Does any one know how many questions are given and how much time is allotted for each section? Can any one tell me if they used this particular book and found it helpful. Thank you all for help and comments in advance.
Thank you for the recommendation!! I am still a little bit confused on the format of the HESI-A2... why would you need to study NCLEX questions when the NESI-A2 is a pre-admittence exam? From what I understood the questions were not based directly in nursing but in general science questions.

The "NCLEX" type question are really only on the Critical Thinking portion of the test. On that part they ask you question such as: "If 4 patients come in to the ER with these conditions, who do you treat first an why?" and then you would have to choose like a nurse would....basically they want to see how well you could handle nursing situations before you know ANYTHING about being a nurse...
I scored an 850 on that part (a 750 was required by my school) some schools require a 900! (The highest score you can get is 1000!)
Every other portion is multiple choice with 4 possible responses, OR Fill in the blanks (I really only seen this on the math portion though)
You can choose which portion you want to work on each time. Mind you, you have 4 hours to complete the test, i highly recommend doing the portion you find the hardest first, (or at least what you think you would take the longest to finish)
As soon as you are done with EACH portion you will know what your score is on those portions. It helps to judge how well your doing based on what your school requires.
There is also a portion to test you test taking skills and what kind of studier you are, its mostly just for you, and you'll get hints on what you can do for study tips and test taking tips and such.
I completed the test in a little over 2 hours, i think like 2 hours and 15 minutes. And I took my time! I really did...i kept going over questions, rereading things and recalculating things...the 4 hours is PLENTY of time for most to complete this!
Also when you go to the testing facility you will have to create an account at hesiinet.com and Evolve reach. This will allow you to take the test. All the computers are separated and most places give you scrap paper and pencil, and there is a calculator as a part of the test.
You have to leave all of your belongings such as Purse and Cell phone in a locker too!
Arrive early! if theres a lot of people there that day they may let you start your test early! they did for us!
good luck and if you need anything else just ask!
I had to take Chem, A + P, Math, Reading and vocab. I used the Evolve study guide and found it very helpful. If you truly understand all the info in there you'll be fine. I got a 98 overall (100 in math and A+P) Pay attention to all the little hints the guide gives you and when it suggests you look at other study material (such as "make sure you can name all the major contour muscles of the body")....look that up in an anatomy book. It's WAAAAAAAAAAAY easier than I expected....don't stress. Good luck.

Depends on what all you have to take...I know NOTHING about the bio section as i never had to take it for my school...but I did have to take Critical thinking which IS hard!
If you have to take critical thinking i HIGHLY recommend getting Fundamental Success: a course review applying critical thinking to test taking
its COMPLETELY based on nursing questions, AND the book covers NCLEX questions, and has a dvd included to help with the NCLEX, ive heard multiple people using it throughout nursing school....I bought it for the HESI and a few question i went over in the book were on the test! Its definitely worth it (PLUS it has a nursing vocab in the back which helped me on the vocab portion of the HESI!)
