I am applying for the NJCU 2011 Jersey City Cohort, does anyone know how competitive it is? I have a 3.0 GPA (not very impresive) and for my pre-req I have A's and a B+. Do you think i have a chance???. Any idea where can i apply just for back up???

please anyone out there!!!! HELP

Hi i just took the HESI A2 on saturday and it wasnt too bad. The vocab section is actually pretty easy. Actually thats one section that the guide was helpful for. It is basic medical terminology. The guide and just brushing up on your basic A&P terminology will help you. I would say that A&P is the hardest section. The guide doesnt really go into depth and the test does! I am just starting my A&P II class now so maybe thats why it was the most difficult section for me. But I scored 95 and above in all other sections so it evened out. Also study basic Bio. including genetics, topics like alleles, punnett sqaures, heterozygous and homozygous, and also cell organelles and their functions. You have 4 hours to complete the test so pace yourself, its MORE than enough time. I finished in 3 hrs. Hope that helps. As for other programs, in NJ:

Rutgers - summer start

UMDNJ Fall and Summer but you have to have all your pre-reqs complete BEFORE applying

Felician - summer start (deadline passed i think)

Seton Hall - ABSN is only at their south jersey campus though.

Their is a program through JFK Hospital's school at Muhlenberg. I dont know much about it though.

And then theres a bunch in NY, the few I know are:

NYU

Columbia

Concordia

CUNY hunter

Binghamton

but there are a bunch more in NY.

Good luck!

Hi there Mile,

Since it is the deadline for the Jersey city cohort tomorrow I hope that you took your HESI and did well. :)

As far as your questions if NJCU is competitive... The school is VERY competitive. They had 350 applicants apply for the September start. You can bet that at least half of those applications are crappy and not qualified. I had a 3.5 undergrad and scored very very well on the HESI. I have an A in the prereq I just finished from this semester and have 2 to finish by august. The rest I did while I was an undergrad a few years back and had As/B+s in those.

Most schools that have a fall 2011 start have deadlines that have already passed. The process is pretty stressful since we do not find out if we get in to NJCU until July sometime. Classes start at the very end of August/early September.

Have you been to the campus or know the area? I am curious about the surroundings and am wondering if the campus is safe or not. I won't be living there, but if you know anything about the area please let me know.

Does anyone know how long you have to wait after taking your first Hesi exam to take another? If an application deadline to njcu is in May and I take a Hesi in november, and I feel my score could be better, could I take again with time to spare? I'm new to the forum so anything will help!

Hey i knowthis is a little late, but in case you are still wondering, the campus itself is actually really nice. its gated, has a private parking deck, and is fairly large considering it is in the middle of Jersey City. The surrounding area, however, is less attractive! If you want more detail abt the area or have specific questions let me know!

Im pretty sure you have to wait a year.
