HESI A2 Test in Dallas County (Brookhaven)

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

:balloons:Hello, I have read many posts on the HESI and some say there is A&P and medical related questions on the test and others from different areas say there is only Math, Reading, Grammer, etc. I am wondering about here in Dallas County - specifically Brookhaven Community College? Anyone who has taken it and can tell me what to study for would be a great help. Thanks from a 42 year old mom of 4 1/2 month twin babies. (Boy do I have my work cut out for me in nursing school)

There is a&p and vocabulary on the hesi. There is a study guide that you can look at at the brookhaven library or you can buy it in the bookstore. I used the guide and it was a great help. The hesi is not hard.

I am taking it at Brookhaven next month. I called the lady in charge a month or so ago and got information. As the above post stated A&P, Vocabulary, English, and Math are on the test. There is also a section in the study guide on Chemistry and Biology that is really small that the lady informed me was included in the A&P portion.

Thank you so much for the information.

Ditto to all! I'm taking this month (or next depedending on timing) at Brookhaven as well. I will deny acceptance though if I get in this semester. I was told that you must complete both pathophysiology and dosage/calc by at least your first semester of nursing school. Well, I really don't want to push those classes during nursing school as I want to completely devote myself to it. So, I will apply again in the Jan for the summermester.

I ordered the HESI A2 study guide off of Amazon.com. It's a good overview. I still need to go check out the book at the library though to make sure that I have all of the tools I need.

Did you go to the pre nursing school meeting at Brookhaven. That does help tremendously when trying to figure out what all you need to know. All of the information that the other posters listed however is everything that is on the Brookhaven HESI A2 exam (from what I have been told).

Good luck with the HESI!!!

2b,

I am also applying to Brookhaven this semester. I am taking patho while I am waiting for acceptance/denial. After this semester the only class I will have not taken is Dosage Calc. It was only offered on time, and place this semester and it was at the same time as End of life issues, and I choose end of life because it was more points.

Don't worry about Dosage calc I have talked to people who have taken it and told it is sooo easy. The class only actually meets 3 times all semester, and it's basic math mainly addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with a few fractions. Thats it. So if you have to take it in the program its really not a big deal.

I will apply "for real" in January for the summermester. I will also take patho during that application period. I've Micro this fall and Patho in the spring. I actually plan on trying to test out of Nursing Calculations and Spanish for Nursing (even though I do not know a lot of Spanish). I figured if I get the text book for both, I can teach myself what I need to get through. I'm really good in math, so I'm not too concerned with it. So, as long as I test out of both, pass Micro this fall, then all that's left is Patho! YEAH!! I'm almost there!:monkeydance:

I work with two new nurses from Brookhaven and they have both told me that the nursing instructors are great. I have heard horror stories about how some nursing programs can be but apparently not the Brookhaven ones. I have a while until I will apply as I have to repeat Chemistry, micro and A&P 1 as I was in the hospital and made "F" 's due to not being able to drop them all in time. What was I thinking taking them all at the same time anyway? Well, this time, one at a time with a few of the death & dying, patho and such thrown in for good measure. I figure it will help me to get a better HESI score anyway having a refresher. I already have the A&P under my belt but was retaking 1 for a better grade. Anyway, working in a hospital so close to a lot of nice nurses will help when I have questions in nursing school. Good luck to all of you.
