HESI A2 on 2/10/17, good score??

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone! I just took the hesi yesterday. I am applying to FSCJ lpn-rn bridge program and I am wondering if my score is good enough???

I got an 84% overall. My school required a 75% to get your name on the list to be allowed to apply. And then they looked at your scores of Reading, Math, AP, and Biology.

my scores were as followed:

Reading- 90%

Math- 90%

AP- 84%

Biology -76% ( this subject was rough for me!)

I have all my pre reqs completed. I have 7 A's and 2 B's so my grades are pretty high. I am hoping that will make up for a low ish hesi score. I scored an 84% over all.

Do yall think I have a shot at getting into the program??

My complete review of the HESI A2 exam. Broken down by section.

First things first, relax! I know I personally stressed myself out WAY too much about this exam! I studied for a month and a half. I am an LPN and had to take the HESI A2 for entrance into the RN bridge program. My school personally required a 75% overall. They had us take everything except physics and critical thinking. They didn't care what you got in each section as long as the overall score of your ENTIRE test was 75 or above. My school then took the grades of Math, Reading, AP and Biology as the ones they grant you points for. I am more than happy to try and help with any questions you may have about the HESI A2.

The sections I had to take are as followed:

Math (90%)

Reading (90%)

Vocabulary (92%)

Grammar (84%)

Anatomy and Physiology (84%)

Biology (76%) – Yeah, not the greatest but I had only taken microbiology before.

Chemistry (72%) -I did NOT even study chem because my school didn't look at this for points.

Learning styles ( not graded)

Personality style ( not graded )

I received an 84% overall, & while I would like higher, my school didn't care about your overall as long as it was above 75%, so I just focused hard on the subjects that DID count against me. Which again, was math, reading, AP, and Biology.

Math- This section was 55 questions long and took me the longest to do. It took me an hour. But I took my TIME! I received a 90% in this section. The bulk of my test was made up of fractions and ratios. I had some adding and subtracting, one military conversion question, and about 5 conversion problems and then percent problems. I did not have ANY roman numerals or Temperature conversions. I studied for math by using the elsevier book.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Vocabulary- This section was 55 questions. I received a 92% in it. This subject was hard to study for. What I used was the hesi book, pocket prep app and hesia2practice.com but I have to be honest that I hardly studied for it because it wasn't one of my subjects that count against me but go figure it was my best score. Haha.. A lot of my vocabulary books came from the Elsevier book itself! Make sure you know all of those words. Also, If there were any words I did not know, it was easy to pick out the meaning from the sentence.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Reading- This section was 55 questions. I received a 90% in it. I have to be honest I hardly studied for reading. I am an avid reading. I can read books alllll day long. What I did do to study for this was read the Elsevier book and that was it. The reading was not hard at all. If you think you are going to have a hard time with the reading the BEST advice I can give you is to just keeeeeep doing practice tests. Make sure you know how to summarize a passage and read the whole thing. Read it twice if you have to. Take your time and read the full question and read the full answers and you will be fine.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Grammar- This section was 55 questions. I received an 84%. Grammar is NOT my best section. English is my first language but what can I say.. LOL.. I studied for this by using the Elsevier book, pocket prep, and the online hesi a2 practice tests. The following things are what I had questions on

A lot of my questions asked me to pick the word that was used wrong in the sentence or pick the correct sentence. Lots of subject verb agreement as well.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Anatomy and Physiology- 30 questions. This was hard because there is NO wiggle room. The questions are 4 points apiece. No pressure, right? Lol! I got an 84% in this subject. I studied the most for this subject but like I said, there is no wiggle room. But don't worry.. studying well will help you. I did several things to try and study for this subject but I still didn't feel like I did enough! I studied the Elsevier book, the cliff notes ap book, and the pocket prep app. I mainly studied the app, maybe that is what I did wrong? Who knows… I still did ok but wish it was a little better. OK so what was on my ap section?? It was completely random and was a mix of both AP 1&2. It was so scattered across the board.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Biology- ugh this section just honesty was rough for me. There are 30 questions and I got a 76%. This section was kinda a blur. I studied for this section by using the pocket prep app and the Elsevier book. They focused on the cell and DNA but then there was other random biology stuff on there that I can't even recall! If I could go back I would buy a biology for dummies or a biology cliff notes book and study it before this test. Because for me personally the Elsevier book wasn't enough.

Great job!! I am about to take mine on Valentines day actually!! I am so nervous for the Chemistry, anatomy and biology sections! Any tips you can give? I am so worried. I've never taken a chemistry class in my life so I am nervous!

Does your school count your chemistry score against you?

I assume so since we are required to test in it. Idk if they look at each individual score or if they just look at the over all but I know we have to test on it.

What school do you go to?

Specializes in LTAC,.

Very much so, í ½í¸í ½í¸±, what did you study ? Excellent scores, I'm due to retake the test for a higher score, any suggestions ??

Hi. I just took the hesi at fscj for their RN program .

It included : Anatomy, biology, chemistry , vocab, reading and grammar. I passed all except the chemistry which I make a 68 on. I had no idea that chemistry was suppose to be on the exam because the first time I took it it was not. Will Chimstry be counted towards the program this year?

Hey there! As long as you have a 75% cumulative overall then you're good. Then they take the scores of the AP, Biology, Math, and Reading as your hesi points for the actually program. You just need the 75% cumulative overall to even apply. I too bombed chemistry with a 72%. lol.

I just got accepted into the bridge for summer :)

Brittany, it depends on your school. If your school did not require it then should actually could have just skipped it and there would have been no grade at all. Check with the college you are applying and if they do not require, then the score doesn't matter!
