HESI A2 exam question

Published

Hi! I'm new to this site and to nursing in general. I have a couple questions about the hesi a2 exam...

1. How far in advance do I need to schedule and take my exam? ...the deadline for the program I am applying to is on December 1, 2011 (UT Houston nursing program). (I can not find an exam schedule online...)

2. How long did it take you to prepare for the exam...and how difficult is the exam...

3. If I already have a degree in Biology will I need to study for the exam or will I probably do fine taking it cold??

Thank you!!:lol2:

Any help would be appreciated!!

There was a Hesi A2 exam study book in the library that I made photocopies of at North Harris Community College to study with. I graduated high school in 2003, and it reminded me a lot like the TAAS math & writing tests we had to take. If you can do basic math calculations like: fractions, decimals, adding/subtracting, multiplying/dividing, and military time, you should be fine. Something a 6th grader should be able to do. Just take a look at the HESI practice book, and you should do fine. I went through the book once and maybe studied 3 hours at most for it.

Good luck,

-Paul :-)

I agree that the math section was easy. I found the vocab, grammar & reading portions easy as well. The only challenging section for me was the A & P. I would go over some of that. I didn't have to take the chemistry or biology sectioons so I can't comment on those. Good Luck! Oh & my school offered the exam monthly so I only scheduled it a few weeks in advance.

1. The scores will be on the computer you use immediately after the test and you will get online access to them within 48 hours (it was the same day for me). So, you could technically do it the day you apply (and I did). However, you might want to go ahead and do it soon in case you need to retake a section.

2.Personally, I thought it was very easy. However, I just took Physiology this summer and Anatomy in the Spring, so that was fresh in my brain. I borrowed a study guide from my campus library and went over it pretty quickly. However, there were several people retaking parts of the exam, so clearly some people have trouble with it.

3. I would think you you'd fine without too much study. The math is extremely easy. The A&P wasn't bad (provided you remember A&P). My scores were: 92% on A&P (it took me 6 minutes to do it, but another girl there took 80 minutes and got an 80%, so this section seems to have the most variability), 92% on the math and 100% on the English portion, bringing my overall average to about 95%. The average for the group I took it with was 89%.

Of course, if you are a poor test taker or you don't remember A&P, it could be a problem. You should be able to do the math & English with very little prep if you have a bachelor's degree. I agree with Paul that those portions reminded me of the TAAS. Best of luck!

Go here for HESI A2 information and study guides. I made this site for A&P students but I've found helpful HESI A2 information and put it on there. Hope that clarifies.

Your background in biology will be useful in the general biology section and possibly in the A&P section. The math you took for the degree would be more than ample to pass the HESI A2. My email is also on there if you have further questions. I wrote a review of the HESI A2 after I took it. It's not comprehensive but it did give my opinions about the test. Search my name to locate it. Good luck.

The A&P section threw me for a loop. You would think that it's basic knowledge, but it wasn't. Do yourself a favor and study well for the A&P section.
