Hesi A2 Entrance Exam

Published

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of preparing for the HESI A2 exam. I have probably read all the posts on AllNurses pertaining to the test...LOL. I have gathered some very important information on how to prepare for the test. I think this is the most important aspect of taking the test; actually learning how to prepare for the test.

So far, I have purchased the Elsevier Evolve Reach Study Guide. I am thinking thought that I would need some additional materials for the A & P, Chemistry and Biology sections of the test so, I have some textbooks to help with that. Specifically, I ordered a book titled, The Human Body in Health and Illness by Herlihy which seems to be an excellent source. I have also been able to find ebooks for General Biology and Chemistry.

After reading the tips from those that have taken the test, I feel confident that I will do good on the test. I anticipate a great outcome. I have not taken Biology since 1989..wow, but as I read, you would be surprised how that stuff comes back to mind.

I was able to pull up a study guide suggested by several posters that was created by the University of the Incarnate Word. This is a great study guide along with the breakdown of topics of study they provide.

I also have the McGraw-Hill's Evolve Reach (HESI) A2 Practice Tests and they are very helpful. I don't take my test until June or early July, so this gives me plenty of time to study. I started studying in February.. I better pass this test with a great score..LOl

So, I will post and let everyone know how everything turns out and provide recommendations for study to help those preparing for the test since this site has been sooo helpful in my preparation. Freely you have given and freely you shall receive:)

Sounds to me like you will be well prepared! I studied the Elsevier third edition and I had the McGraw Hill Evolve app on my iPad which is the same as your book. I definitely recommend the one on the iPad because it gives you the feel of taking the test. I also used quizlet, I searched for hesi information on quizlet and found several study groups and flashcards which helped save time. I did not have to take Biology, A & P or Chemistry sections so I can't help you with those. I studied about 5 weeks and I made a 94 overall.

Good Luck you will do great!

Yes, quizlet is another great study tool:) I use it daily.. I take test after test... thanks for bringing that up.. this is a valuable study tool for anyone taking the entrance exam or taking other tests. A part of my nursing school application process entailed taking a CNA course and we have to learn abbreviations as one of our tests. I was able to pick up the list right away because of quizlet. I learned the list in 1 day. So, quizlet is most definately a free study tool that people want to learn.

Hi I read your post about the hesi exam and scored 94 overall. That's really good. I have to take the TABE test which is similiar to hesi but involves no science. I would really appreciate your insight on the math, word problems especially "applied math"

How was the grammar/reading section?

Hello, I have only taken a practice TABE test. I googled some resources for the applied math section after I took the practice test to help me brush up on my math. Just google TABE applied math and there are plenty of worksheets and study guides for TABE that will come up. For me, math is starting from ground zero and working my way up and this is the only way I was able to grasp fractions. I also has a GED book that a friend of mine was using. Again, I had to start from the basics and worked my way up.... Right now, I'm just in studying for the HESI.

tasha92337,

Crossing my fingers and sending you lots of positive energy as you take your test today. I'm sorry I am just seeing your comment and it's to late to respond. I think shaynurse gave you lots of great advice if it helps. Praying for you!!!

djstormin...aww thanks! i got a call back saying i am an alternate and still eligible for the lvn program. i have to retest on wed. so thats a good thing. i had trouble with geometry word problems. any youtube videos or books you recommend? :)

Tasha92337 I have to admit I didn't have the first geometry word problem on my test. I was kinda ****** after learning all of those formulas. I am feeling lucky now. Good Luck and I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I didn't use any utube to study but I can't see that it would hurt. If you can find them use them. The more methods the better when it comes to learning.

Good Luck and I pray they go thru their alternates so that you get in this year!

Diane

Thanks Diane. I really appreciate your kind words. I will hopefully find out Friday. I have been prepping on right triangles and learning geometry formulas. So we will see how it goes :)
