Hello! I have some questions regarding the HESI A2 entrance exam! I will be taking my exam this upcoming Wednesday and I was wondering if any of you could help me out with answering my questions...

  • I know a computer calculator is available when taking the Math portion, however I was wondering how good is the calculator. In forms of reliable, accurate, and if it has a decimal option. The reason I ask this is because I have been taking some practice tests from McGraw Hill and I seem to run out of time in the Math portion because I spend too much time (multiplying, dividing) will the calculator do that?
  • Also, because of this problem I am also wondering if the time frames giving are individual for the sections, or if I have extra time on my Anatomy will it transfer over to the other sections not yet done?
  • Last question, if you took Anatomy what things did you notice you had to study. Is it very detailed Anatomy or in general things we know if we took Anatomy class

I know this is a long post but I hope any of you can help me ease my mind :arghh:

Welcome to Allnurses.com! We moved your thread to our HESI forum. Good luck to you.

The testing center at my school provided everyone with a basic calculator for the test. It didn't do anything special besides addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It did have the ability to do decimals. Your school/testing center could provide a different calculator through, so you should probably give them a call to see if a calculator capable of doing decimals will be provided.

I had 4 hours to complete the test, no time limits on individual sections. I started with the section I knew I would complete the fastest (vocabulary) and moved to those that would take me the longest (math). I completed the test in under 2 hours.

The A&P section was not overly specific. There were a few questions that asked about specific parts of the body but most of it was just general questions. I had only taken A&P I when I sat for the HESI and still made a 92 on that section.

The HESI was easier than what I was expecting. Good luck on your test.

The calculator was built in, and while it was sufficient, it was annoying because I had to scroll to the right to use it. It slowed me down a bit, but did the job!

I'm assuming the tests are pretty similar, I had four hours to complete the test and could take as much time in each section as I needed. I started with the Anatomy (which was 30 questions) while I was the most fresh. :)

I used the Hesi a2 app on my iPhone to take practice test after practice test. I felt it was a good representation of the type of questions asked. The app is nice because you can flag the ones you got wrong and then take tests using only those flagged questions. The questions were a mix of simple, strait forward questions like muscle and bone names and more applied thinking style questions - example: is this muscle being abducted or adducted?

Good luck!
