Herzing or Keiser? - Orlando

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi,

I'm trying to decide between the RN programs at Keiser or Herzing in Orlando. I believe both programs are fairly new here, and I've had somewhat of a difficult time trying to get the opinions of students who went the Orlando campus of either of these programs. I've spoken with an admissions counselor at Keiser and I already know most of the intricate details of that program. I'm scheduled to attend an information session for Herzing in a couple of weeks. My biggest concerns are the following:

1). How confident the graduates feel in their ability to pass the NCLEX

2). How graduates from these schools are perceived by the local hospitals as far as employment (Orlando/Central Florida area specifically)

I think I could get out quicker at Herzing, but I'm unsure if they are regionally accredited, which is a deal-breaker for me since I plan to apply to the RN-BSN program at Florida Hospital (they give preference to their alumni for admissions into the anesthesia program). Keiser has both SACS and NLNAC accreditation so that's perfect. I've read plenty of mixed reviews about these schools but none were specific to the Orlando campuses. Quality varies from campus to campus and I just want to be confident in my decision... ESPECIALLY since that decision comes with a 20-30K price tag :).

Hi Littlemissgator,

It's been a while since I've posted anything. I'm so glad you are enjoying the program so far. I'm postponing starting in January becuase a few days before I was supposed to take the TEAS my hubby and I found out we are going to have our first baby in December. I'm motivated to do this but I'm NOT going to start an intense program 3 weeks after I have a baby. Anyways, please keep me posted on how you are doing.

Congrats on the new baby! Motherhood is an intense journey in itself, so good call on the postponement. I will definitely keep you posted on my experience. I remember how nervous I was in determining the best route for me, and every bit of information & opinion helped a lot. Congrats again.

Hi! I am also considering going to Herzing for their R.N. program~ I am torn though because I see they are Regionally accreditated but not NLN accredited--do you or anyone here know anything about accrediation or how important it is?? and do you or anyone know how Herzing's nursing program is?? Any advise would be helpful! Thanks

Hi floridamama,

I was really considering to going to Herzing (see my previous posts) but I decided to have a baby instead. :) Anyways, Herzing applied for the NLN accreditation last year. Decisions were made in August and Herzing was denied accreditation. I would not go there because their program is obviously lacking in something. I'd go to Keiser.

Floridamama. You definitely want NLN accreditation for any nursing school you want to attend. In fact, that is the first question you should ask. Regional accreditation is okay, and it will get you the ability to practice in the state of FL. But if you ever decide to further your education and get a BSN, any decent well established college will ask for NLN accreditation.

So, it really is up to you. I applied to both herzing and keiser, and got accepted at both. I dont know if it was me, but i sort of had it handed to me on a silver platter - as i created a great impression on my counsellor as well as the then director of the program - which was also mostly due to me being the highest scoring student on the NET (nursing entrance test - that was required then).

Keiser, sort of gave the run around - but transition was very smooth. Program wise...i attended the first semester at their melbourne campus (oldest program and first to be accredidated) and needless to say, they are thorough and brutal. If you are not cut out for it, you ll be out within the first semester. You make great friends with those in your class and everyone helps everyone else out once you start warming up to each other. Great family atmosphere.

I just wanted to add that I was wrong about Herzing's NLN accreditation. They had a site visit in February and decisions will be made in June. The new lab is very nice.

Hi, I want to know how Entrance assessmet NET is, how difficult, and if they give any study material or if you know about any books to study.... :D

Hi.

The NET test was given - i believe- until 2009, and was nothing more than math and english. It has been phased out now and you will have to take the TEAS test, which in itself is gruelling. It has all that, and sections of basic sciences as well. I personally think it is 100 times more difficult than the NET. They do have study guides from what i have learned . Good Luck.

Let me tell you some things about Herzing-Orlando. DO NOT DO IT! You will most definitely regret it. Half the students don't make it to the end of the program. Clinical instructors show up late to clinical days and are frequently reported by the licensed RNs at the hospital sites for inappropriate clinical behavior (entering a contact precautions room without gloves or gown). The instructors assign 10 chapter readings with no outlines and test you on all this material using only a few questions. The school is completely disorganized when it comes to lectures, exam material, and especially grading. If you fail a semester, you must wait many months to start again and redeem yourself. After a second fail, you are out of the program. Yet they still conveniently keep all the money you paid for the entire program. If you have any other options for nursing, take it! Just a heads up...

OK, so I've finally come to terms with the the whole financial aid deal, and my excitement has returned because today is the first day of orientation! :D

Gator may I ask what the schedule for the Nursing program at keiser is like.. I work full time 7 to 3 aND there's no way I can quit my job what time options do they have if you don't mind me asking
