HERZING COLLEGE

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

I currently attend Lake Sumter Community College and it's basically impossible for me to get into the nursing program because of the waitlist .....I was doing alot of research on Herzing College and it is a 2-year program, including all of the pre-reqs...and there is no waitlist...Has anyone attended this college??? If so, how was your experience????

Thank you for your time :D

Hello Nicki7701,

I live down the street literally from this school! What I can tell you is that the Nursing Program at Herzing College is an accelerated program. There are no pre reqs, no wait list or nothing. You can get your Associates in 18 months. I never went to the college before, however, I am in the process of studying for the TEAS exam. (pre-entrance exam), and that's the same school I want to go to. Hope this helps!:nuke:

Best wishes

Melissa41932,

Thank you for your response....I made an appointment with them for next Wednesday for the nursing information session.....I know that this school is expensive, but I can graduate quicker without waiting 2 years to get accepted at my community college....

Good luck to you on the TEAS test!!!!!

Hi Nicki7701! I was just wondering what you found out at your Herzing meeting! How long is the program and did you get any idea what the schedule is like?

marisao13,

Are you ready for this?????

The program at Herzing University is 24 months long including your pre-reqs, The total cost will be about $39,000....They have day and evening schedule, but she told us that since you focus on one class a month on your pre-reqs and if you choose a day class, sometimes you will have to go at night class if the professor chooses to teach for example: English at night!!! That sucks!!!! Once you get into the nursing program, you do not get to keep your nursing books, they are the property of the school!!! I think that it's ridiculous since the school is so expensive, you would think you get to keep your books. Clinicals could be at any time at any hospital, you have to go where they tell you....The hours could be 3am-11pm, 3pm-11pm, 7pm-7am, etc....Clinicals can be during the weekday and weekend.....I was not impressed by Herzing when she told us all of this...It is regionally accredited, but I think it's too expensive and they accept 25 students twice a year and their slots are never full and I see exactly why. Again, this is my opinion, I think you should go to the session and see if you like it....One more thing, they have already changed over to the TEAS test and I think you have to make at least a 65 on it, once you pass you have 2 weeks to get all your paperwork together, ex., background check, shots, records....

Hey Nicki!

Thanks much for all of the info!! All very interesting for sure. I am up in WI so I wonder if it is the same up here. I talked to someone who went thru the program and she made it sound like if you chose the am then everything was in the am and vice versa. 39,000. wow. I wonder if you pay by the credit or by the semester. If someone has a lot of prereq's done hopefully they don't have to pay the same price as someone who hasn't. I will probably go to the info session just to check it out, but now I am definitely a little skeptical! where do you think you will go instead? Thanks!!

marisao13,

I am currently attending Lake Sumter Community College in Florida....They only offer the nursing program once a year in the fall so when I'm done with my pre-reqs, I will apply to Valencia Community College and Florida Hospital College because they offer the program three times a year....

I wish you the best of luck in choosing your school and I'm glad that you will check out Herzing first before you commit to it....Please let me know how things go!!!

Take care!

I don't know about the credibility of Herzing. I signed up for information online and they keep calling me. I find it weird that a school keeps calling to convince me to attend their school. I too think it is very expensive especially when you're not able to keep the books which is definitely something you would want to do to look back for reference when you're practicing as a nurse or going for your BSN. It is close to 40,000 for 2 years... when you would be done at a community college in a 1.5 years and pay probably 10,000. I have a few friends attending VCC's nursing program... there is a pretty long waiting list. Sometimes it'd hard to believe nursing is in demand... getting in to these programs are time consuming!

I definitely agree with you!!! I will wait for a nursing program that is better established than Herzing!!! It's alot of mis-information to me.

I realize this post is SUPER old, but here goes....

I just LEFT herzing ollege (university or whatever) and its not all they chalk it up to be. among other problems, my main ones were:

1. the class sizes are NOT small. my anatomy class had close to 40 students.

2. the administration is NOT caring and friendly. in fact, i have been disrespected by more than one.

3. the clinical site DONT always match the class. they had me in a clinical for another class and it was totally the WRONG type of setting for the class I was taking.

These are just a few of my problems and i was only in the LPN program! don't waste your time/money here. they do NOT have it together and after 2 semesters, I AM LITERALLY RUNNING AWAY!:crying2::down:

hope this post helps someone.
