I recently apply for a Hemodialysis position through the hospital where I work. I am casual so I work in every unit and I am excited about the opportunity to work in a dialysis clinic. Tomorrow is my interview and I am excited but nervous as I am not sure what they will ask. Any feedback?
I have been nursing only for a year, so I have had only one interview in the health care field. Any advice? Is it acceptable to go to an interview in scrubs? (they want me to have the interview after 2 hours of shadow-shift).

You can get somewhat of an idea about the care by requesting a copy of the facility's recent survey by the state. Often deficiencies are observed by surveyors that are not identified by staff. You should also ask to see any of the reports from any complaints filed against the facility. This will also give an idea. When you shadow=shift watch the infection control practices e.g. are staff washing their hands before and after donning and removal of gloves, between patients. Are staff using gloves when touching machines and administering medication? If staff cough in their hands are they washing hands after? (Correct way to cough is in elbow area). Look at chambers on machine to see if they are below half-way filled. This can be an indicator if staff are cognizant of correct procedures. Are dialysis machines, BP cuffs, chairs wiped down after each patient. These are a few things to look at if you don't have dialysis experience that can tell you if staff are doing what they are suppose to. RenalRuth
