Helping My Wife Become A Nurse

U.S.A. Florida

My Wife has spent the last eight years with a goal- that is to become an RN-she has became a Medical Asst. and earned her degree in Health Services Administration- through lean bare bones days when we were struggling she has managed to juggle night courses and still delivered and raised three great kids- held a job and managed our home. She has qualified for many student loans & government grants over the years and just finished her last round of coursework and is only 9 classes from graduating. With less than a month from the start of those classes she has been informed by her school that she has exceeded her limit in student loans and grants and needs to pay out of pocket for atleast the first four semesters at $4000.00 each coming to $16,000.00. For a struggling middle class family raising three kids and both parents working this is an enormous amount of money!

My Wife has sat in these classes with young girls many years her junior- youngsters that just got out of high school- it is an amazing feat to secure a slot in the Nursing Program and she did it by things such as her perfect 4.0 grade average, her acceptance to the National Honor Society, her Perfect Attendence and the drive that everyone that meets with her can see.

We are at a loss for what to do- It tears up my heart to see her so close to her dream and not be able to make it a smooth journey the rest of the way- a woman with such dedication to duty- a Mother who is so very attentive to our children and armed with the knowledge she has learned will be a valuable asset to the nursing world- there is so much she can do and so much farther she can go if we can just clear this last hurdle.

Class starts in a few weeks and if she can't start she will lose her slot.

I am turning to everyone, anyone or anything that might help me find a solution.

I'm so sorry to hear this. There has to be something, an option that hasn't been considered! Personal loan through your bank or college, if she is a member of any pre-professional associations they offer loans. Have you tried any of these?? I will look into this more....

You can contact local hospitals. Many of them will pay your tuition, if you will work for them after graduation. At least, I have had a similar offer.
