Help me.. UAE nurse !!!

Hello everyone,

I really hope that someone can gi me some advices about negotiation of salary in UAE, Abu Dhabi. I am a nurse and originally from Asia. I moved to a Scandinavia country for almost 10 years ago with my family. I have my nursing degree from Scandinavia and worked there for 3 years before I moved to Abu Dhabi with my husband. I have got an job offer from one of the largest public hospital in Abu Dhabi and I decided to work with them and signed the employment contract in Aug. this year. I wasn't satisfied with the salary that they offered me because it's so low but I took it because I was so happy to get a job.

When I signed my contract, I didn't negotiate my salary because I thought the hopital would offer the salary by educations and experinces for everyone. Just like in Scandinavia where I used to work before. I was so naive....!!! After a few day I found out that many hospitals here and especially the puplic hopitals will pay the salary to employees by their nationalitiy and people who are from sub continent like me will get paid less.

For me, I can accept this amount of the salary if I will send money to my country in Asia, but I have moved to the Scandinavia country and I have loans and a house there. I have to tranfer and pay for the loans in Europe not in Asia. When you tranfer money from here to Europe is very little as you know. This is a big big problem for me now.

What can I do? Please advice me what I should do next ?

I have got the employment visa now and will start to work next month.

Do you think I should negotiate with HR department before I start my service or should I wait until I have worked 2 or 3 months and try to negotiate with my Charge Nurse or HR dept?

Please help me with the advices :bluecry1:

Nurse in Abu Dhabi ...

Specializes in NICU,ICU,ER,MS,CHG.SUP,PSYCH,GERI.

It was my experience in Saudi that your pay is dependent on the country you are from. We wanted to hire a Filipo gentleman who was a Master's prepared US Citizen but our hospital would only pay him the wages a Filipino nurse made...about 1/4 of what a Caucasian US nurse would make. There was no negotiating. He didn't come.

Hi, I myself lived in Abu Dhabi for 12 years and an Asian now living at US. Even if I am not a nurse, my opinion is to keep the job until you find anything better. You have already done with your employment visa, that case you should check the law of cancelling especially while you are in a country like UAE. I am not sure your present nationality and status of residence. Then only anyone can answer your question properly. But I would say it is good that your first job offer is in a Government organisation there, that sounds good. Atleast you can gain experience and look for better placement or UAE always a place for smart people to grow. Always check the law before your steps, while in UAE. The best person to answer your question is a PRO there. Good luck.
