HELP traveling-failed drug test

I did something stupid and took a friends prescription for some severe cramps I had, then failed a drug test a few days later.

I was working as a traveler in maryland. has anyone gone through this? I am not a drug addict. I don't want to lose my NY license.

should i get a lawyer?

Yes, I would definitely get a lawyer. Testing positive for narcotics is very serious business.

You know, if you inform the company doing the testing that you have taken a narcotic for a problem, then they document that information. I do not know that they require seeing the perscription. If you didn't inform them that you took it, then it may make you look guilty. They will document that, along with your results. As for now, a good defense lawyer that defends professionals would be a good investment, just in case. They usually start at about $200/hour. Many times initial consultation is free. Good luck.

Not only will they want to see the prescription but they will want confirmation from your physician. I know this because it happened to a friend of mine. She was legitimately on the medication though, and was cleared with no problems.
