I tried both methods that you have and they worked out pretty well for me. I was also told by a teacher it helps to not just memorize facts but to think about how things work and how they effect the body as a whole.

I hope that helps. It was a trial and error thing for me. How much studying are you putting in? I was also told that putting in 2 hours of study time for each credit hour of school you're doing is a good guideline. I've been doing that since my prereq days and it has served me well.

here's the lowdown on studying pathophysiology. there is rationale to it and it goes like this:

  1. everything starts with normal anatomy and physiology which you must know first.
  2. know where the normal anatomy and physiology has broken down; where the links in the chain have broken
  3. at every place that there has been a breakdown of the normal a&p, there is a manifestation, or symptom

why this becomes important later is that doctors and, more importantly, we nurses treat those symptoms.

you can use parts of my critical thinking flow sheet for nursing students to help you put together the elements of the various diseases you are studying now in this class and then complete them later when you take your nursing classes.

good luck and hope you do better on your next test.
