Help regarding license transfer from NY to TX...

Published

Hello!! I'm from NY and I received a RN job offer in Houston. I just had questions about the license transfer/endorsement process. I researched online and found Nurse Endorsement Application. I asked the recruiter from the hospital about this and he said had no idea because he never heard about endorsement application and to call the TX Board of Nursing. I called them and I was on hold for a very long time. So I was wondering...am I doing this in the right way or is there another step that I am missing? How long does it take to get a temporary license so I can start working right away? NY is a noncompact state while TX is a compact state..will there be a delay to get the temp license because of this?

I too am from NY, and moving from NYC to San Antonio and I am trying to figure out the whole process. At least I will now have a compact license. I am just doing the online option and getting the 120 day temporary license.

It is an endorsement application. I am in the process now. Fill out the endorsement application, then request the finger print part of it. Mine just came in the mail yesterday. Have your fingerprints taken at you local police department. There is also an exam, which is included in the $200 endorsement application fee.

All of this information is on the Texas BON Website and is pretty straight forward. It says..."To be eligible for licensure by endorsement, you must have graduated from an approved PN/VN or RN program, taken the appropriate US exam and have either worked in nursing or have taken the US NCLEX® exam sometime in the previous four years prior to the application."

then is has a link for eligibility Texas Board of Nursing, so read that to see if you fit the eligibility for endoresement.

Your recruiter is not going to walk you through all of this. Read the website Endorsement Applications and you should not have any further issues.
