Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Hi, I am currently looking for a school to take up LVN. I took up Nursing in the Philippines for 2 years, i wasn't able to finish the Degree though because I had to go here.

Anyway, is it possible that an accredited-school that offers LVN credit the subjects I took in the Philippines? So that I don't have to retake some of the subjects, and possibly take LVN for a shorter period of time?

Hope someone could answer my question.

I'm from Lake Forest, CA btw. I think only Stanbridge University, Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College offer LVN.

Most LPN/LVN programs only offer credit for anatomy & physiology and nutrition if successfully completed at a collegiate level.

As a (registered) professional nursing program is not the same as a practical nursing program (similar but not the same) there is rarely credit given for nursing classes. In addition your coursework was not completed in the US and the Philippines does not offer an LVN/LPN credential it is unlikely that you will receive credit for your previous coursework towards an LVN program.

That said most full time LPN/LVN programs are designed to be completed in 10-12 months including all classroom and clinical time. Part time programs may take 2 years but those are generally a few hours in the evening program. Since LVN is a relatively short program there wouldn't be much time to save by being credited for your prior nursing education.

Most US nursing schools do not transfer nursing credit between institutions. So even if you completed 2 years of nursing at Harvard you'd likely not get much credit for nursing courses at UCLA.

What about RN Programs?

I can pretty much guarantee no. Even Excelsior College won't give credit for international nursing courses.
