Hello fellow nurses,
I am interested in working towards my AAS in nursing online due to the need to continue to work full time as an LPN. I have looked into The College Network and Excelsior College. I am very overwhelmed with all of the information!
From my understanding, I can work at my own pace from home. Are clinicals required? Do they set the clinical site up with a local hospital? Do students pass the NCLEX after completing the program?
I was accepted into my local community college's transition program however, my employer is unwilling to work with a school schedule and I must continue to work full time to support my grandmother.
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!

please search around here and the web in general! lots of info out there. here is a brief summary!
college network sells study materials-books, workbooks, etc. they are not a school.
excelsior is the school that you go to-you study on your own, they give you an outline of what will be on the test and you study all of that. then you go take a proctored test. you do this for each class. yes it is study at your own pace, which is to many people's demise-they do not have set test times so they take 6 months to take a class. many people schedule their test ahead of time, so they have no choice but to be ready by test day.
clincial is an EXAM, it is 2.5 days. it is pass or fail. it is your last requirement. so it is up to you to study all clinical stuff-being an lpn already will help with that part since you had clinical already. but it is still super stressful! if you miss one thing, you fail (like letting your pt's feet touch the floor without socks on).
please continue your search about the program and what will be expected. i am sure others will chime in. also call the school, they can give you great info.
you must be a very disciplined learner-it is all on you to do the program.
good luck!

I am almost done with the Excelsior RN program. Been doing it since aug 2009. I work full time and have a family. I did the college network thing, but would highly recommend not signing on with them, because you can find the modules on ebay for usually less than $100 a piece, and they charge $500 a piece once you sign their contract. The modules are helpful, but for some exams you need more resources. Any more questions, feel free to ask. Good luck with your journey.
Thanks so much! I spoke with Excelsior this morning. I am just extremely nervous about the clinical exam! Unexpected things happen everyday. Not sure what to do
And what do you guys think about the job prospect for online students?
I'm worried that employers will not recognize Excelsior College. But if you're a licensed, then your licensed I suppose...
The very first thing u must do is make sure u can get licensed in your state. The economy website has some info on diff states requirements but u should search your board of nursing website. If u can't find info call them.Other than that I have worked at many facilities, did travel nursing, no one cared where I got my license.
