Help are there any online nursing schools for pre nursing students

Published

Hello

I am trying to find an online nursing school for a beginning student. I have a degree in Psychology BA. I took all of the pre-req for nursing. Thanks for your help:crying2:

How do you know if you took all the pre-reqs for nursing? All nursing schools are different, and may have different requirements for their programs.

I know of an online nursing school in Az, but you have to be in Az to do the clinicals. So I think you need to pick the school out first based on your location, then decide if you have all the pre-reqs and requirements completed (vaccinations, physical, fingerprints already checked, etc, etc)

Well, you have a few options. I started off with the same BA as you, but when I was looking for nursing schools there were remarkably fewer options and that was just about 6 years ago.

The only undergrad program for non-LPN/RNs that I know of is Excelsior College. If you check the student forums for online education you'll find more information on their studies.

Now the choices I would have liked back in my day were the Direct Entry MSN programs online. You earn your RN degree while in the long run graduating with an advanced degree. If you wanted to continue on to NP practice you can then move onto a post-master's certificate program. There are lots of these programs offered online, too.

If you would like more information I'll be happy to answer any questions you have. :)

Hello YellowFinch,

Thank you for the reply. I will check on the site. So does that mean there is an online nursing school. The good think is that I work at Emory the hospital so I will be able to do clinincals there. Thanks.

Excelsior is an online nursing school. Check them out.

If you want to pursue the DE MSN option, just do a google search for that topic to get your search started.

I did a ton of research before pursuing my FNP degree, which I'm currently enrolled in, and am happy to share what I've learned over time.

Hello

I looked up Excelsior and it says you have to have clinincal experience to get into there school I do not have that. I just have a BA in Psychology. What is the DE MSN and what is FNP. It sames as it is so hard to get into nursing I am so disapointed. Sometimes I think I should go another route. I am thinking maybe maybe get my masters in Psychology. Thank you for all of your help.

As they say, "anything worth having is worth fighting for!" I believe this applies to a nursing degree as well. I do not know of any online schools where someone without a nursing degree can get a higher nursing degree. I have seen online programs where a LPN can get his/her RN, an RN with an ASN can get his/her BSN, and of course one can go on to get his her Masters or PhD online as well. However, someone with a degree outside of nursing still needs to obtain at least an entry level nursing degree in order to take advantage of the online learning opportunity.

If you find it hard to get into nursing school, then one route would be to obtain your LPN and then seek out a LPN to RN course. Also, you could get your LPN or Paramedic degree and then do Excelsior. There are many routes to enter this wonderful profession. Yes, some come with a price or sacrifice, but only you can decide if it is worth it. Some people pick up and move in search of their Medical or law degree, while spending many days/nights hungry and broke. The pay off is the day they obtain their degree. My pay off was the day I became an RN.

Personally, I think the Masters in Psychology degree is wonderful, but it will not feel the void in your heart if it can only be filled with a nursing degree!! I wish you all the best with your decision.

Sincerely,

Jay

Hi Loriwga,

Getting into a nursing program is not easy, but the benefits, flexibility, job security, and fulfillment you will find will definetly be worth it. Online options are few and far between because you NEED so much clinical experience, and one of the things you will want to investigate is the NCLEX pass rate for whatever school you decide, if you do choose nursing. In the GA area, there are a few schools that offer part time programs and that is the University of West GA and Brenau. It will take you a few years to complete it, but you won't have the intensity of going to class every day as with most program. Also, if you are willing to transfer to another state for 12 to 18 months, you can finish an accelerated degree and get back to your life and the working world!

Good luck with your decision and if you decide to go to nursing school APPLY EARLY!!!
