Help! NVCC admissions

Published

Hey everyone,

Has anyone here gone through the competitive admissions process at NVCC? Is preference given to those who already have a degree, or is it all just based on the pre-req GPA? Does anyone here care to share what their GPA was?

I am graduating from the UMUC in May with a B.S. in Psychology and was wondering if this gives me an advantage of any kind.

I am also anxious about the fact that I got a C a few years ago when I took A & P I. Should I retake it, even though I have an A or B in all my other pre-req classes?

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know what I will do with myself if I don't get in! I want to be a nurse! Thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately, no one has ever gone through the competitive admissions process at NVCC. I was admitted for Fall 08 and it wasn't competitive at that point; they changed it right after we got in. So I can't really answer your question. I can tell you that they have increased the amount of students from what they used to accept, so that will work in your favor. My understanding is that they didn't turn anyone away for Fall 08. If you are really, really worried, well, a better grade in A&P wouldn't hurt. You should also get a good score on the HESI. Those might the the biggest things they will look at. When I met with my advisor this year and she saw my grades from NAS 161 & 162, she told me that those were the best indicators of success in nursing school - so it sounds like they pay attention to them.

ETA: I mean I was admitted for Fall 07! See I'm losing my mind already. In Fall 07 it wasn't competitive; for Fall 08 it will be, so I wouldn't know what the average GPA will be to get in.

Best of luck!

Kelly

I'm also trying to get into NVCC's program for next fall...what do you think the average GPA was for acceptance? I took NAS 161 thius semester and will be getting a B...I'm really going to try super hard to get an A in NAS 162 next semester...
