Help! New grad returning to nursing - Interview with Nurse Manager

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello all,

I am a RN who practiced for a total of 11 months but 3 months of it were in a non clinical position and the remaining 8 months were in an unchallenging outpatient environment. That's all I could manage to get when I graduated in 2010. Jobs were not plentiful in my area.

After 5 years focusing on family, I am now finally returning to nursing. I just reactivated my licenses, signed up for RN refresher course, picked up a job as a home health caregiver, just to get back in contact with sick patients and I am now applying to positions in my area.

I got 2 calls today, one for a phone interview tomorrow, the other for a sit down interview with a nurse manager (I did the HR interview over the phone today).

I am really looking for guidance as to how to prepare. I haven't been in a hospital environment for quite a while apart from instances where I was visiting someone. How do you think I should prepare. What kind of questions should I anticipate?

The HR lady said, it is business attire even though it's on a Saturday (so meaning no shadowing on the floor); the position is a new graduate nurse position (less than 12 months experience) in a newly opening Observation Unit.

I am really excited and a little nervous to get back to nursing and being offered a RN position this hospital would mean a lot. We need the money but especially, I want to be a nurse and I want to grow as a health care professional.

Thanks in advance for all your answers.
