Help Needed - Book for teen re. suicide

Published

Hello all!

I am trying to find a book that would be appropriate to give a 14-year-old that attempted suicide. The idea is that the content needs to be understandable, not preachy, uplifting and come from a teen point of view?

Does anyone know of a good resource? Thanks in advance!

Girl interrupted is pretty good and it also comes as a film if thats the kind of book your looking for. The author was in a mental hospital for borderline personality disorder and its from the paitent perspective, its really interesting. The author at the beginning attempts suicide and its about her recoverie in a mental health hospital really worth reading and definatly not preachy!!

love bekki xx

yeah, i guess any book that decribes the situation of someone who is very unhappy and scared but who still lives. When I was 9-10, I read, "The boy who wanted to make himself dissapear" and "The Catcher in the Rye" when I was 14-15.

You might check out When Nothing Matters Anymore - A Survival Guide for Depressed Teens by Bev Cobain. My sister checked it out from the library. It has a lot of good information.

.....mind you I'm only a student, not a nurse. This may be helpful, maybe you could check it out and look it over first.

By the way, hello everyone, I'm new to this site. I've learned so much from this site. I scheduled to enter Nursing school in Fall '05 at Mississippi College.
